It must sound a little crazy to some that I am thinking about introducing the potty to my son when he is only a year. However he has mastered walking and I told myself that as soon as he started walking I would introduce him to the potty. He happen to start walking at 10 months so I said I will wait until I get back from my vacation (that was January) so here we are in March. March break just finished and yes that could have been a perfect time to introduce him since I did not have to bring my siblings to school but with the flu hitting my little brother and my son caught a slight fever and cough, I decided to change my plans for that.
Now is the time for me to get Potty Training Organized. I have never had to potty train anyone before well I did for my youngest sister but never for a boy. That is my biggest fear but I believe I can do it. I don't expect him to pick it up right away, after all he is only one but I want him to at least get used to it. The more we practice the more he will get used to it! At least that is what I am hoping.
First on my list:
A potty seat. I decided on Rev & Go Sounds Disney Cars Soft Potty Seat since my son will be on an actual toilet compared to little version of a toilet. It saves you more money to just buy the seat because when you buy the little version of a toilet, you later have to buy a potty seat anyways. This way I skip that money flusher and go straight to a real toilet that you son or daughter sees the whole family using. Also saves the repeating of having to dump the waste into the toilet over and over.
This one I chose because this has music and my son sure loves music so a musical potty sounded perfect for him. Of course there is lots to choose from so pick the perfect potty that suits your child and some bright colors and TV show characters sure help too.
I am going to need a pack of pull ups for this just to be able to rush him to the potty really quick. I like that his has cool alert. I hope it makes a difference for him. I am mostly going to look for his usual sighs that he gives me when he has to use the bathroom but this could come in handy as well. I got this photo from Ilovetogossip.
I am for sure going to get flushable wipe for this but looking for a green product that does this.Of course when I find it I will share with you all. I think kids are used to wipes on them already so flushable wipes are a easy transition for them to make way towards using toilet paper. Some parents go straight for the toilet paper and don't bother with the flushable wipes but of course it is always the parent's choice. I got this picture from Dealseekingmom.
A Step Stool are very important just because you want to give your son or daughter some height to the bathroom sink. You don't need to be a very expensive one, just one that will not slip under their feet. Remember your children will grow so don't waste money by buying the most expensive products. Buy one that you can use later for when your kids are all grown up. You never know when you might need it to get something off the top shelve. Photo from Ikea Childrens Slip Resistant Stool
I am not actually going to buy my son one just for this event. I am going to borrow my mom's. However if you have one you can use yours or go ahead and use an book or something else to entertain your child. My son loves movies and TV shows so I know he won't complain if he can watch it in the bathroom. No fusing here! I hope. This one in the photo is from Walmart XO Kid's Tablet with Case.
I am all aboard the prize and sticker train. I think you should celebrate all the moments, it not only makes your child excited to get started but gives your child a goal to work their way too. I can't wait to get started on this. Having a sticker chart make their way to a prize box and then to a ultimate prize is so cool. It doesn't have to be big prizes. Get a cute box and fill it up with dollar store toys and whatever items your child would love from cars to crayons and more. For the ultimate prize, think about somewhere you can go like a movie, a picnic, a museum or zoo. Look for local places or ask your child where they want to go so they know what they will get if they use the bathroom for a month or so. Photo from animprobablelife
Lastly I know that I want to buy this. I think this was a perfect product for moms who are going to be potty training. Sometimes you can't be home all the time and what are you suppose to do if your child has to go potty in the middle of the store. Now I have seen and been in store bathrooms before and they are not always as sparkly as you wish they were. This Disney - Cars Folding Potty Seat from Walmart keeps your child's bum far from the public toilet seat and right on this. It can fit in your diaper bag and it folds which is fantastic. I look forward to buying that one.

ReplyDeleteWe are going to be Potty Training in the next two or three months. I like the sticker and prize idea. I am going to use that.
ReplyDeleteI bought a little potty and my daughter isn't fond of it but she enjoys sitting on the big girl potty. Luckily I bought the potty training chair with the toilet seat as well. If I notice she is grunting or squatting I'll put her on the potty just to get use to it. No success yet but hopefully soon.
Thanks for the great ideas!
Your welcome. Your daughter will enjoy the sticker and prize idea. I hope you all the best with this potty training. I know it can be hard to do. Don't give up, little ones will bring you on a rollercoaster of emotions but one thing I have learned it that you can't give up. Happy potty training!
